Unit 2 - Growth of a Nation Pre-Reading Research Project


During the 19th century, America came of age and entered its literary and cultural maturity.  Research how the following historical events played an important part in our nation's growth at this time:

Louisiana purchase

Lewis & Clark expedition

1838 Trail of Tears

Monroe Doctrine of 1823

 

Create an iMovie which illustrates your findings.  Be sure your movie includes the following:

1. What aspects of American life did the event change?

2. What ripple effects did the event cause?

3. Whom did this event benefit the most?

4. Whom (if anyone) did the event harm?

During the 19th century, technology leaped forward. Research one of these 19th century inventions:

The mechanical reaper

The cotton gin

The steam locomotive

The telegraph

The bicycle

The iron-tipped plow

The sewing machine

The typewriter

 

 

Create an iMovie which illustrates your findings. Be sure your iMovie addresses the following:

1. What aspects of American life did the invention change?

2. What ripple effects did the invention cause?

3. Whom did the invention benefit the most?
